“If these picture have anything important to say to future generations, it’s this, I was here, existed. I was young, I was happy, and someone cared enough about me in this world to take my picture”

– Robin Williams –

We are having a great time at Kota Belud Paddy Field. Kota Belud is the rice bowl of Sabah but it is not the main tourist attraction. Most people come to Sabah for it’s beautiful Island, Beaches and to climb a Mount Kinabalu. Kota Belud paddy field normally not on their itinerary of must visit place but I can tell you this, if you wanted to see Mount Kinabalu beautifully, then Kota Belud paddy field is the right place.

Normally people will pay a visit to Kota Belud during “Tamu Besar” or Open Air Market, held annually at Kota Belud town. Even though Tamu is held every Sunday but the “Tamu Besar” which is an annual event in Kota Belud is something different. There are plenty of activity.

Anyway, if you loves photography then, you should not wait for “Tamu Besar”, just come to Kota Belud and  feel the simplicity of Sabah countryside, just about an hour drive from Kota Kinabalu will get you here, along the way, there is plenty of places worthy to be photographed. But if you wanted to have Mount Kinabalu as your background, then leave Kota Kinabalu as early as possible, around 5 A.M in the morning will do just fine but it will be better if you can spent one night here. So you will have fresh energy for photo shoot.

My little children, Raphael and Arianna might not remembered this outing because they are too small to remember but HaiQal which will be seven years old next year will probably remember it. So for Raphael which is just two year old and Arianna which is just five month old, will never remember anything but hopefully with this photographs, both of them will know that they have been to paddy field with their family.

It is just a simple photography outing with my family and my friend Azman Jumat with his family also. There are plenty of beautiful location here that is picture perfect but since there are many of us, moving around here and there wasn’t easy, so we just stick to this one particular location and make the most of it. We arrived here  on late Sunday afternoon so the Mount Kinabalu  already hidden under thick blanket of mist, nowhere to be seen.

I think taking a photograph of your family members in an open area like this one is thousand times better than in the studio, off course, studio portraiture has it place but once in a while just take your family out there, have fun and enjoy the photography while your kids roam freely.
