Live In The Present

Do not look back, and grieve over the past,
For it is gone;

Do not be troubled about the future,
For it has not yet come.

Live in the present, and make it so beautiful,
That it will be worth remembering.

I read one great article recently in a newspaper. It is about postponing a happiness. It was happened at “Goal Setting Workshops” conducted by a renowned Malaysian Psychologist. During one of the session, the trainer requested all the participants to write down their future goals and their action plan to achieve their objectives.

One of the participants drafted an unique goal and action plan. His goal was to be a multimillionaire in 10 years time. His action plan was to just work and work during that period. He will not spend anytime with his family and friends as he will work from morning till night daily. He will not waste his time with his family or friends or go for any vacation.

After 10 years time, hoping that he will be a millionaire at that time, he would happily spend his time with his family and willing to travel the world. After reading the statement, the psychologist asked him a question, “Please give me an assurance that you will live up to 10 years from now.” The participant was dumbfound and could not utter a single word.

I think some of us,  are like that one participant, postpone our happiness, always procrastinate doing something that they can do it now, they have all the resources, they have all the time but keep on postponing, saving the best for the future but nobody can guarantee our future.

I think there is nothing wrong to plan for the future, in fact we should, but we must also take the time to really make full use of the present because that is what we really have.

Some people may say that I should have wait until my childrens growing up a bit, then only I should take them to travel with me, but then, it is a risky business because nobody can guarantee that. Life is full with mystery, nobody can guarantee that we will live the next hours or tomorrow.

Life is full of uncertainty and I don’t want to live a life full of regrets. I can always recover back the money spend on traveling if I live long enough, InsyaAllah, but I will never ever recover back my little children childhood. I want them to be happy now at the present while I still can and not holding it till tomorrow.

This post is to those of you who have all the money, who have all the time, who have all the resources but still procrastinate for the future for whatever reason, it looks like they are guaranteed a future. I would rather take my family pictures now in front of Istanbul Blue Mosque while they are still a small kids than wait for them to grow up in the future which I have no guarantee over it.

Live in the present, and make it so beautiful, That it will be worth remembering…
