“If these picture have anything important to say to future generations, it’s this – I was here, existed. I was young, I was happy, and someone cared enough about me in this world to take my picture”

– Robin Williams –  (One Hour Photo Movie)

Sometimes we have to make a photograph instead of take the photograph. Taking an picture is shooting a photo as a reaction, without any preparation, while making a photograph is a process. In this case, I’m making a photograph where I try to find a suitable location for the background of my family, which is nearby KLCC or Kuala Lumpur City Centre, this little park is situated just next to Jalan P.Ramlee nearby Malaysia iconic Petronas Twin Tower.

How do I make the photographs? I just find a suitable location where my wife can sit comfortably with my sons and let them play together, I also make sure that the area are well lit, since I don’t have any flash with me, I need a good area where the lighting is not too harsh for my family.

For the photographs above, I use Canon 50mm f/1.4 prime lens and set the aperture at f/1.8, using shutter speed of 1/2000 because the area is quite bright and I use ISO 200 for the photographs. One more thing that I prepare before going out, is to make sure that my family wearing a bright colourful clothes, so when I photographed them, they will stand out from the background.

That’s how  I make the photographs, you may have your very own way, what I’m sharing here is just a typical SOP when it comes to my family photography but most important of all is that, it’s the moment that matters, a moment to remember.
