“Love like rain, can nourish from above, drenching couples with a soaking joy. But sometimes under the angry heat of life, love dries on the surface and must nourish from below, tending to its roots keeping itself alive.”

– Paulo Coelho –

Actually it  was raining, just a light drizzle, I did try to use slower shutter speed like 1/30, so that the rain can be a little bit more visible but then, once I tried using that slow shutter speed, I get a blurry photo, not because my hand wasn’t steady but a sudden movement of my daughter, so I decided to use a little bit fast shutter speed like 1/125.

Anyway just wanted to share with you, the best way to photograph the rain is to use slower shutter speed, like 1/60 or 1/30 and below. Taking a photograph during the rain is not easy, it can get uncomfortable. In this photograph, actually I was handholding an umbrella with my left hand while the other one taking this picture. I need to cover my camera from getting wet, even though it is just a drizzle.

The other tips is, when photograph someone on purpose, make sure that they lift the umbrella a bit, especially when using a dark colour umbrella, so that the face of that person is exposed to the light a bit. The idea is not to get the face in the shadows.

At first, I wanted to use a yellow colour umbrella, but thinking back, it might be  too contrast and will be to distracting, so instead, I choose the black umbrella so that my wife and my daughter become the centre of attention here. It may look a simply photograph at first, a grab shot or a snapshot but if look carefully, it is actually more than just a snapshot, a lot of elements taking place here, if only you could see it.
