“Most travel photographers make pictures to convey the appearance of a place. I try to make them to convey a “Sense of Place.”
What exactly is a “Sense of Place?” To me, a “sense of place” means not just what a place actually “looks like,” but rather, how it feels, what it represents or once represented, and what it might mean to us. Making images that capture a “Sense of Place” usually involves expressing symbolic ideas central to the meaning of the place, instead of just descriptively recording its appearance. “

“No single image can usually do this job by itself. To offer a true sense of place, we need to present a number of expressive images about that place, grouping them together as a photographic essay, a picture story, or a series of sequential images. Hopefully, when we have absorbed the meaning of them all, we will feel as if we can grasp the nature of that place.”

– Phil Douglis –

“The key to meaningful and inspiring photography lies in two seemingly opposite concepts: letting your inner child wonder and marvel at the things around you as if you were discovering them for the first time while, like the wise elder, taking your time to slow things down and discover the essence of your subject.”

– Younes Bounhar –

This latest ebook from Craft & Vision really does comes at the right times, I love traveling and love travel photography so much and this ebook resonate well with me. Sometimes I do struggle a lot to take a great picture in my home country Malaysia, it is very difficult to view my home country from tourist or strangers point of view, every things looks so ordinary to me, I grew up here, that’s why everything looks so ordinary to me but then there are people who have travel half way around the globe to reach my home country, they find it interesting, lot’s of variety and some people say that, they love our country so much because there is so much to see and there is the beaches.

On the other hand I travel all the way to Nepal just to take some pictures of the mountain, the Himalaya, Nepal is a landlocked country, they don’t have beaches, and to them laying on the beach is so much fun comparing to trekking the Himalaya, on the other hand, I like trekking more than sitting and laying on the beach.
