© 2011 Spylens Studio Photography | Photoshop Workshops Held in The Studio Conducted By Me

This is my first Photoshop Workshop in 2011, I was a little bit busy this year. Last year I’ve conduct two Photography and Photoshop Workshop, both in Sabah, the first one in Mesilau Kundasang Organized by Spylens Studio and another one held in Lahad Datu Sabah organized by Ngap-Ngap Fan Club which based in Lahad Datu.

I wish I could do more workshops but I was too busy with my work, this workshops were organized by Spylens Studio and it was held in the studio as you can see from the picture above and this is the second time my Photoshop Workshops were done inside Photography Studio. I’ve done the same workshops inside Spylens Studio back in 2009 but at different place. Spylens Studio just move here in Putatan Sabah.

Normally we don’t take large group of participant, small group is better, so that we can give each and everyone full attention. Even though I’ve stated earlier on my previous post about some basic knowledge in Photoshop, some of them are quite new with Photoshop but still wanted to attend the workshops, so I need to give different attention to different person and many thanks to Azman Jumat and Roslee Karim the Owner of Spylens Studio for helping me up and not to mention to all the participants who also lend a helping hand to help those that needs more attention.

Basically this is not a Basic Photoshop Workshop, it is quite an advance or for intermediate level where I teach the participant how to use Masking or Layer Mask to fine tune their editing. I skip a lot of Basic Photoshop Editing like adjusting Level and Curves for contrast but focus more on selective editing using Masking method. The real secret of my editing is Mastering the Masking or Mastering the Layer Mask and once we know how to get around with Masking, everything will become easier.

To all the participants, I would like to convey my deepest gratitude for your commitment to join my class, some of you come as far as  Kinabatangan and Tenom to get here. I really appreciate your thirst for knowledge even though I know personally that I can’t satisfy each and everyone, hopefully everyone learn a lot of new things in my class.

There are many ways to do things in Photoshop, and there are no right or wrong ways of doing things as long as you get what you want or the effect that you after but for me the best way is the simplest one or the less complicated one, we don’t want to spend most of our time staring at the computer screen but we should spend most of our times shooting picture, by right, more times shooting, instead of editing unless you wanted to do some serious artistic editing but then again if you have the right or the good picture to begin with, everything will be easier.

Since this is not Basic or an introduction to Adobe Photoshop Editing, some of you may find it a little bit difficult to follow some of the technique but trust me, the more you do it, the more you will have a better grasp of the technique involved especially on the heavy usage of the Layer Mask. Use the knowledge that you learn as a guide or as a stepping stone for you to move on, be more creative with your editing, do expand your knowledge by attend more Photography or Photoshop course, read more Photography blogs and invest some money by buying good Photography or Photoshop books, that is how I learn Photoshop.

After more than ten years playing around with Photoshop, I still can find something new about editing, maybe because I like to try new things, I’m not afraid of making a  mistake because the truth is, I learn a lot from my mistake than from the “Right Way”. Sometimes my “Mistakes” inspire me to do new things, inspire me to make certain adjustment and inspire me to make more mistake in order for me to learn more, to fine tune my editing, to sharpen my skills.

Do not be afraid of making a mistake, if somehow you lose control or doesn’t know what to do or what’s next, just take a break, save the PSD file, take a walk and come back later once your mind is clear of clutter. Just enjoy the process of learning and if I can do it, I believe anyone who can “read” can do it, maybe our level of understanding is different, maybe our pace of learning process is different, but you will get there, insyaAllah.

Thank you again to all the participants, once we are strangers, now we are friends and hopefully we will have a very long lasting friendships sharing our passion and interest together.
