I’ve always imagine taking picture here in the supermarket whenever we go out shopping for our grocery but most of the times I did not dare to take a picture, there are a lot of people in the supermarket and furthermore most supermarket does not allow us to take a picture inside. But I just couldn’t resist looking at those leading lines, it really will make a powerful photograph and then again I want to captured my son having fun sitting at the supermarket trolley.

The tricky part getting a picture here is that of low lighting condition, I’ve to bump up the ISO to 800 and 1000 depending on the location inside the supermarket, some part are brighter than the other like for an example, a picture of my son on the trolley next to chills items there, it is quite bright because there is a lot of light coming from the chiller, so ISO 800 will do the job. For the picture at the very top, I’ve to use ISO 1000 because it was quite dark over there. Since I like to shoot in Manual Mode, I’ve to get the exposure right first and when the angle is right, I quickly take a few shots.

All of the picture above were taken with (UWA) Ultra Wide Angle Lens 10-20mm, my favorite portrait lens is 50mm but to get the best effect of the leading lines, nothing can beat wide angle lens, the widest the better. I know some people will say, “isn’t it prohibitive to take a picture here”? Yes it is, but do not worry, they are not going to call the police, you are not stealing anything but a “moment” and with the right “answer” already plat in your head, you will get pass by, in case if the security guard tap behind your shoulder. Just be kind.

My son is growing up and sooner or later he will not be able to sit on the trolley again, so I think it is better for me to have a picture of him on the trolley while I still can. I did not suggest you to go out to the supermarket and  take a picture of your child there, but if you did go there with your child while shopping for some grocery, why not take few pictures but off course at your own risk. Those leading lines at the supermarket really get me crazy and to those of you who is new to Photography World, using leading lines is a great technique or composition where we can draw viewer’s attention to the subject, those leading lines will takes our eyes straight away to the subject, they give directions to the viewer’s where to look at or where the main subject is.
