Palacio Salvo ( the tallest building on the left ) is the 26-storey skyscraper which dominates the skyline of Montevideo. It was designed by the architect Mario Palanti, an Italian immigrant living in Buenos Aires, and constructed between 1925 and 1928. It has an eclectic mixture of styles, including Art Deco and Italian Gothic.

The building was originally intended to be a hotel, but this plan fell through and it has since been occupied by a mixture of offices and private residences. The building itself is 95 metres high, but 100 metres with the antenna. For decades it was the tallest building in South America. Palacio Salvo may no longer be the tallest building in South America, but it is still the most popular image on postcards of Montevideo and remains a national icon for Uruguayans.

Photographs above were taken during my official assignment here in Montevideo Uruguay when our King make an Official Visit here. I still remember the very first time I set my foot here in front of our hotel which is located around Plaza Independencia, I saw this amazing looking building just right next to our hotel, the very first thing that struck my eyes that make me wanted to jump out of the car is the lighting on that beautiful building, the reason why I wanted to jump out of the car is that because I know the lighting won’t be there that long, I mean sooner or later it will be dark and before it gets dark, I want to take as many picture as possible, this is really a golden lighting. We arrive here in the late afternoon from Santiago Chile.

The moment we arrive in front of our Radisson Hotel, I did not “Check-In” first but rush out of the car and head over into Plaza Independencia compound and start taking pictures like crazy. I think it is a very good start or good omen for me to do my assignment here in Uruguay.
